01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled inside the edgy ambiance of DangerDanger at 140 Wilson Avenue, Brooklyn, Lori Jayne stands out as a compelling New American restaurant, steakhouse, and hamburger haven that delivers more than just a meal—it offers an experience infused with neighborhood warmth and elevated flavors. This unpretentious yet vibrant spot embodies the spirit of Brooklyn’s evolving culinary scene, where locals gather for laidback camaraderie and newcomers quickly feel at home.

At the core of Lori Jayne’s allure is their iconic Steak and Frites, a dish that has rightfully garnered a devoted following. Priced at an incredibly approachable $20-$25, the steak is cooked with precise care, tender and juicy, paired with shoestring fries that are crispy, perfectly seasoned, and irresistibly satisfying. Diners can enhance their steak with the restaurant’s signature sauces—like the peppery LJ au Poivre or the umami-rich Miso Chimi—each adding a nuanced layer of flavor that keeps guests coming back for more.

Beyond the star steak dish, Lori Jayne’s burger also commands attention. Praised for its harmonious balance of savory elements, with crisp, tangy pickles and a house-made sauce that ties every bite together, it’s a revelation for burger lovers seeking something beyond the ordinary. The menu offers a true taste of New American cuisine that honors traditional staples while nudging creative boundaries, embedding each plate with rustic charm and vibrant flavors.

The atmosphere reflects the spirit of a beloved neighborhood dive bar, intimate and relaxed, yet polished enough to delight both casual eaters and discerning foodies. The friendly service—highlighted by staff like the approachable Chef Sam and bartender Jack—creates an inviting environment that complements the affordable drink specials and well-crafted cocktails. You can feel the passion radiating from the kitchen, matched by the genuine hospitality at the bar, making your entire visit feel personal and memorable.

Many patrons, like Christian Rodriguez, treasure Lori Jayne as a “hidden gem” with “neighborhood vibes,” a spot where quality steak doesn’t come with the usual hefty price tag, yet never sacrifices on taste. Although some visitors expected an overwhelming flavor punch, the consensus appreciates the thoughtful preparation and value, making it a rewarding stop whether you’re a local or just passing through Brooklyn.

In short, Lori Jayne is a captivating destination for anyone who cherishes simple, hearty American fare done exceptionally well. From the first savory bite of steak to the last crispy fry, every visit promises comfort, flavor, and a genuine Brooklyn welcome.

A Hidden Gem with Neighborhood Vibes Little dive bar with a laid-back, welcoming feel—exactly the kind of spot where locals mix with newcomers. I came in just to try the Steak and Frites after hearing good things, and wow… $25 for a solid steak in a bar? Can’t beat it. Add in the fair drink prices and some solid specials, and this place is definitely a sleeper hit. Great for anyone who appreciates a no-frills atmosphere with real flavor, both in the food and the crowd. The outdoor seating is great to enjoy your meal on a breezy night. Parking can be a little bit of a pain. Pro tip, visit from 8:00pm-10:00pm

The food was good, as was my drink, in my opinion it was a bit overhyped. The steak was incredibly tender and the fries were perfection too, I was expecting something out of this world flavor wise based on reviews, but I’m guess the price point plays into the hype as well.. Still enjoyed myself and the wonderful service! Worth visiting if you’re in the area, not necessarily traveling for, like I did.

I’ve gone to Lori Jayne for one thing, and one thing only — the steak and fries ↕ the shoestring fries are delicious, and the steak is well cooked. We got the original gravy, and the chimichurri. We liked the original gravy more, but we still felt like it was a bit too salty for our tastes. However, the real hidden gem here is the burger. Well balanced, delicious pickles, and a great sauce. Honestly, we were fighting over the burger more than the steak! The drinks we felt were okay, but the food is what really shines here! A bit expensive, but a good treat (4.5/5)

Waited three years to try the steak frites here and they did not disappoint. Arguably the best bang for your buck steak frites in NYC for $20 and the flavor does not lack. There was no wait to order although you do have to wait around for tables at the danger danger bar they’re set up at right now. Will definitely be going back in the future

Saw the YouTube video, came and didn't regret it at all! Spoke briefly with The Chef Sam, very nice guy and you can tell he is very passionate. Both the sauce Lj au Poivre and Miso Chimi were delicious & the steaks were cooked perfectly. The fries were incredible crunchy and perfectly seasoned. We were greeted by the bar man Jack, very professional and friendly. The drinks he served were great and the wine perfectly paired with the steak. Over all 10/10 experience, I would recommend it!

Overall rating: 4.4 Price: $47 w/ tip I’ve been wanting to try this place for a few years after seeing it on the Tok. Since it’s in bushwick, the spot is a travel for me. I went one time at night on a time crunch and that was a bad decision. There were lines and lines of people towards the bar. So the second time I went around 6pm and I think it was just opening. Omg it was so loud! Like, can’t hear yourself loud. The bartenders were so nice, but I would have just loved the place so much more if they lowered the music 3-5 notches since it’s not 10pm. I ordered the Steak Frites Mala Au Poivre & 1 Cucumber Mint Gimlet. It took about 20 minutes or so with maybe 3-4 people there. So it felt a little long for me for medium rare. The steak was smothered in sauce, so it was a bit hard for me to taste the steak. I did like it with the fries but not sure if the dish is right for me. Also I wasn’t expecting to pay almost $50 for a meal and a drink in Bushwick. I do feel like I’ve aged out of a place like this so not sure if this is the place for me. I did see when I left, they were offering earplugs in the front. So everyone is aware it’s loud. But a little confused why they don’t just lower the volume. The food was good, just not sure if it’s worth the trip for me.

The food is pretty good. They increased the price of the steak frites to $26. I think even at this price it is fair the steak frites was really good. The burger is a fair value as well. But it had too much sauce. My one complaint is that this is a bar so there is basically no waiter and you order with bartender. Overall it is a good experience but not something you travel out of your way for.

Good for food, but may be better for drinks. The steak fries (3.5/5) was good but not worth the price. The meat was fairly chewy but did have nice flavor, and the sauce was nice, but not worth $22. The burger however (5/5) was phenomenal and totally worth the $10 with cheese. Nice vibe but was hard to grab a seat.
